The Next Big Thing

What is the title of your next book?

Crystal Flight

Where did the idea come from for the book?

It started with an image of a young female pilot (of a starship) sacrificing herself to lead pursuers away from her Master. The story has moved on a long way from this initial image. In fact, this scene probably won’t appear until book three!

What genre does your book fall under?

Science Fiction

What actors would you choose to play the part of your characters in a movie rendition?

Four POV characters:
Kemard – Adrien Brody
Rafk – Hugh Jackman
Cathan – Alexander Skarsgård
Talek – William Erasmus

What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?

Cathan flees his home world, unjustly accused of murder; his two older brothers strive to clear his name, while Cathan finds love and a new life in unexpected places.

When will the book be published?

In serious re-write mode, and still need an agent. So, not before 2016.

How long did it take you to write the first draft of the manuscript?

Five years while working full-time (and it’s still not quite done)

What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?

Difficult…aspects of: Julian May and her telepaths… Peter F. Hamilton’s Greg Mandel trilogy… Anne McCaffrey’s Crystal Singer

Who or what inspired you to write this book?

The death of my father made me re-examine what I wanted out of life. When my youngest daughter left for university, I chose to pursue my long cherished aspiration—to write.

What else about the book might pique the reader’s interest?

Space faring mercenaries; telepaths bound in a symbiotic relationship with a crystalline life-form; really cool wolves!
